21-Year-Old Cricket Sensation Strikes Lightning: Meet the Fastest Bowler in IPL History
Mayank Yadav delivered an outstanding performance at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, taking 3 wickets and conceding just 14 runs in four overs, bowling at a speed of 156.7 km/h during his victorious spell for Spale. The 21-year-old player, who won the Player-of-the-Match award in both of his first two IPL matches, holds the record for the most deliveries above 155 km/h in IPL, and ranks fourth in the league's history for the fastest delivery (156.7 km/h).
In his impressive performance, he claimed the wickets of Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green, both renowned batsmen accustomed to facing high-paced deliveries on Australian pitches, as well as the well-set Rajat Patidar.
Reflecting on his achievement after Spale's 28-run victory against RCB, Mayank said, "It feels great to receive two Player of the Match awards in two matches, but I am happier that we won both games. My aim is to perform well for the country for as many years as possible. I am concentrating on the primary objective, as this is just the beginning."
Mayank expressed his fondness for the wicket of Green, whom he dismissed with a fast delivery that hit the stumps so hard that the ball flew off the stumps and crossed the boundary on the first bounce.
Speaking about the challenges of bowling at such a pace, Mayank emphasized the importance of various factors like diet, sleep, and training. He emphasized, "You have to be flawless in every way to bowl at such a fast pace. My focus is on my diet and recovery as well, like taking ice baths."
LSG's captain KL Rahul, who was keeping wickets during Mayank's spell, mentioned that one of Mayank's deliveries hit his gloves "really hard."
Rahul expressed his delight at Mayank's recent bowling performances, saying, "I'm really happy to see Mayank bowling the way he has been in the last few matches. He has quietly waited in the dugout for two seasons." He added, "He couldn't play last year due to injury, but he stayed in Bombay with the physio and worked really hard."
"He understands that bowling at 155 km/h isn't easy. At a young age, he's already had a few injuries... His temperament is very good, and I'm enjoying watching him bowl from behind the stumps. That's where I like to be when he's bowling!"
LSG's opening batsman Quinton de Kock remarked that Mayank was "rocketing it."
De Kock remarked, "We are thrilled to have him in our squad. He's really bowling well." "Usually, as a young, fast-paced individual, you tend to get stuck in many things. But he's keeping it simple and doing well."
RCB's captain Faf du Plessis noted that assessing a young fast bowler's "new action" could be challenging for batsmen, especially if there's a bit of pace behind it.
Du Plessis stated, "Especially if there's a bit of pace behind it, it's really intriguing." "It therefore takes some time for batters to become accustomed to someone's action simply to watch how the ball leaves the hand. It's really impactful to see his pace. But tonight, what was more impressive for me was his ability to control his lengths and bowl with good discipline. That's more impactful - combining pace with accuracy.
