As Portugal finally defeated Ghana to win the opening game of Group H in a thrilling five-goal contest, Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to score in five World Cups.
From the minute the game began, Portugal seized control and nearly capitalised on their early possession advantage when Ronaldo was stopped by Lawrence Ati-Zigi and then missed the far post shortly after.
Just past the halfway point, Ronaldo put the ball in the Ghana goal with one of his normally composed finishes. However, the Portugal captain was found to have fouled Alexander Djiku as he twisted on the ball, and the goal was disallowed.
Ronaldo was brought down by Mohammed Salisu early in the second half, giving Portugal an unexpected chance to score their 118th international goal. Ronaldo stepped up to the spot and converted the penalty.

Ghana did not give up and pulled a goal back late on through substitute Kwabena Owusu, but it was not enough as Portugal held on to win 3-1.
This was an impressive victory for Portugal against a strong Ghanaian side, and it will no doubt give them confidence heading into their upcoming World Cup qualifiers. As for Ghana, they will need to improve if they are to stand any chance of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
